Nils Økland Band

Han var også leiar for Ole Bull Akademiet i seks år. Komposisjonane kallar han sjølv ein hybrid mellom poesien i folkemusikken og energien i punken. Han knyter alltid til seg musikarar som også vil utfordra grensene mellom nedskrivne notar og improvisasjon, musikken vert til gjennom samarbeidet og dei ulike impulsane frå kvar enkelt musikar.

Resultatet av den siste eksperimenteringa til bandet ligg på den nye plata Kjølvatn som vert utgjeve på ECM.

In his work as a professional violinist the last thirty years, Nils Økland has moved within and without a wide range of genres: from classical violin playing to Balkan folk music, from heavy improvisations to Norwegian traditional folk. He describes his compositions as a hybrid between the poetry in folk music and the energy of punk. He always attaches musicians to his projects who are both willing and eager to challange the borders between sheet music and free impro. The music comes alive through coopertation and the impulses of each individual.
